Congratulations on becoming parents. Having a child is a great blessing of God so you must thank Him for it. Parents have extraordinary love for their children that is why they spend sleepless nights just to ensure that their child is well. One thing that I have observed after seeing my friends who are having children is that being a parent is the most difficult task. The first 4 years are extremely difficult particularly for mothers, as they have to take care of every single need of their child because he or she is fully depending on them.

It is sad to tell that every 2 out of 5 newborn fail to reach their first birthday and it is mostly due to the carelessness on the part of parents. I am not saying that parents do not take care of their child, what I want to tell is that taking care of a child and fulfilling all his necessities is also an art which needs to be learned. So those parents particularly mothers who have child under the age of 4 must read books related stuff or other on parenting. If you do not have enough time for doing so then I am here to share my knowledge about parenting especially babies’ health.

Infants do not have strong immune system so you need to be very careful about their diet. It is highly suggested to give your child breast milk instead of packet or powdered milk, as it is his right given to him by nature. You may start giving them light food after he reaches 8 months. Mashed banana or potatoes are good for children. One common mistake done by most of the parents is that they do not get complete vaccination of their child. As a result, he is attacked by various diseases.

Children are relatively more sensitive to weather conditions compared to adults so you must protect them from extreme weather particularly cold as if you do even a little carelessness then he may suffer from pneumonia which is very common among children that are under 4 years of age. In the same way, you must also keep them safe from extreme hot weather conditions.

As children cannot tell their pains or sufferings by themselves, so they use other tactics to tell that they are not well. Wise parents give attention to their children if they behave differently such as they are drinking too much or too small amount of milk or crying too much or remaining awake for long time. If you observe any of these things then take them to doctors on immediate basis.

In addition, health experts always suggest a medical checkup of children especially under the age of 6 on regular basis. Child specialists measure the body weight of the child and do his physical examination in order to know about his growth rate. Sometimes, growth of a child stops at certain level due to any illness. This can only be detected if you get the medical examination of your child regularly.

Be careful where you take her.
With a brand new baby immune system she is vulnerable to all sorts of bacteria and germs, it is best that you keep her in the comfort of her home where she is safe and happy. They can quickly get a fever and have to be hospitalized, kept in a clean room and incubated, so better safe than sorry. Outdoors can be fine except for the pollen season but you certainly don’t want all the relatives sticking their face over the toddler. As advised by many pediatricians, take her nowhere for at least 2 months.

Make sure you are not the risk.
It is serious when it comes to babies, and paranoid as it may seem, making hand washing a habit is not only healthy for you but also for the newborn. Also make sure that whoever holds her have washed their hands, you don’t want infections and viruses to pass on. Manage your priority, the baby is always at risk so if a family member is sick and no matter how much they are urged to seeing her, ask them to wait till they are better.
Hasty decisions aren’t rational.
If she is still an infant and unfortunately you are yourself suffering from flu, you shouldn’t at any cost, stop breastfeeding. It’s a natural way of the mothers body that she can detect and create antibodies and pass it to the infant in its next session of breast feeding. Keep on doing what you are supposed to as a mother as all the antibodies that you have developed are passed on to the baby. It is a strong advice recommended by pediatricians worldwide.

Vaccination
Remember when we talked about you passing on antibodies, get vaccinated so you can pass on the antibodies for the most possible diseases, and remember the babies aren’t capable of handling flu shots till they are 6-8 months old. There are of course diseases like whooping cough that take a series of shots before reaching a state of full immunization, if you haven’t received vaccination you should. It is proper and safe to be immunized after delivery. Also either immunize everyone who comes in contact with the baby or keep them away.

Keep the feelings of siblings in mind.
Most mistakes the mothers make is get extremely paranoid when it comes to older siblings, you don’t want to hurt his feeling. He can get into depression if he accepts himself as a threat to the baby and become isolated and feel hated. You will have two problems instead of one. No hasty moves. Often mothers send them to relative’s house or act over protective. Teach him proper infant etiquette that wash your hands before holding the baby; cover your moth while sneezing, how o maintain hygiene and a healthy environment without feeling insecure. A good way to do this is you make him realize the importance of cleanliness, and above all else, avoid any play dates until the baby is out of the vulnerable state.

Play by the rules
It is unacceptable to leave the baby alone in the first place, your baby deserves you full attention, and you should quit your job till he is no longer an infant at the very least. If you have to leave him at a daycare make sure she isn’t sick, to prevent illness from spreading. Since it is a general rule, you must abide by and other parents will follow through as well. At some point it will pay in good return.

These things though look simple but they need to be followed to ensure good health of your child.
