Kids are a precious gift given to us. They always make the house look lively with their cries, screams and laughs. Here are a few health tips for kids:

A kid should eat a well balanced diet constituting of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains with little kids needing more fat as they burn them more and it is essential for the nerve development and brain. A proper way to give kids all the nutrients they are in need of is to give them a variety of foods. They should eat plenty of greens and dairy and avoid excluding them that are special and should eat unhealthy foods.
A kid is more sensitive to the environmental toxins as their lungs are still developing. It is therefore a health tip for kids that they should be kept away from insecticides and all environmental toxins as they can result to obstruction of their airway. Always opt for keeping all chemicals out of your house. Incase you have sprayed an insecticide; you should open all ventilations that are in your house and if possible, ensure that your kid is not present in the house.

Sleep is very important for kids and I regard it as the number one health tip for kids. The reason being, kids who have adequate sleep score good grades at school as compared to those who lack sleep. This is because the brain consolidates networks for memory and learning during sleep as well as promoting growth hormone. It is therefore advisable that, a parent should ensure that the kid has adequate sleep. If you follow these health tips for kids, your child will grow up normally and healthy.

With so many fast food franchises opening up around the world, and the majority of them catering to children, it can be very difficult for parents to instill the importance of healthy eating habits in their children. However, healthy eating habits are essential to ensure a healthy child. Children are not able to decide what is good for them and what is bad. Therefore, it is up to parents to ensure that children eat healthy. This practice begins at home. These practices are what children take with them from childhood to adulthood. How can parents instill the importance of eating healthy into their children?

Many parents blame fast-food places and their children on their eating habits. Children cannot be blamed for their food choices. It is the choices that are made for them that make them who they are. For example, many parents start feeding their children unhealthy foods when they refuse to eat anything else. This is a bad habit. The child learns that there is another choice to refusing food. The child learns that if he refuses the good foods, there will always be a better alternative. So, the problem of bad eating habits in children is not the fault of the fast-food places or the child. The blame falls on the parents who introduced the bad foods in the first place. Eating healthy should be a practice from the very beginning. There should not be any other alternative. If the child refuses to eat healthy, he should be made to wait till he is hungry enough to eat it.

Most parents who complain of their child’s bad eating habits fill their shelves with junk foods. Crisps, chocolates, fizzy drinks and all other fatty and unhealthy foods are available at home. Plus, parents too always eat out or order in. parents forget they are the role models. What the child sees, the child will follow. So, in order to get children to eat healthy, parents should practice what they preach.

Children should be made aware of the health implications of eating the wrong foods. They should be told that certain foods are not ok for all meals. A special treat once a month is alright. But, eating junk food all the time is asking for trouble. Parents should stand firm on their decision. They should not waiver on their decision simply because the child refuses to eat. This, once again, show the child there is an alternative. A strong “no” always works with children. Although they may fuss initially, they will thank their parents later in life.

Parents should also try not to prepare separate meals for their children. They should always prepare the same healthy meals for everyone in the family. However, they can always add a small side-dish which the child likes. This way, the child cultivates a taste for “grown-up”, healthy foods, while still being able to enjoy some of his/her favorite foods.

Practice what you preach. "We think that parents and other adult role models need to set an example by being active themselves," Brown says. And it's not hard to find activities the whole family can do together, such as a daily walk or bike ride in the neighborhood. Other simple but fun options: hide-and-seek, jump rope, tag, or a game of basketball in the driveway. Mowing the lawn, raking leaves, and shoveling snow count, too.

Don't underestimate the value of some video games. The AHA and Nintendo recently teamed up to promote the use of the Wii Fit to help Americans meet recommended physical activity guidelines. The goal of the partnership is to teach people how so-called "active-play" video games encourage regular exercise. If you're having a tough time getting your child to play outside, consider buying a video game that requires the child to get moving, Brown suggests.

It is not easy getting children to eat healthy. However, the responsibility of this task falls on the parents. With patience and a firm resolve, children can be made to eat healthy and live healthy lives.
